VA Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System (GLA)
GLA is one of the largest health care facilities within the Department of Veterans Affairs.  It provides care to over 90,000 veterans in a managed care network of Community-Based Outpatients Clinics across Southern and Central California, built around a Patient-Aligned Care Team, where each patient is assigned a primary care team. Primary and specialty care is provided at Sepulveda Ambulatory Care Center, West Los Angeles Medical Center, and Los Angeles Ambulatory Care Center.

The GLA directs the Department of Veterans Affairs’ largest educational enterprise.  It serves as a major training site for medical residencies sponsored by the UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine along with more than 45 other colleges, universities and vocational schools in 17 different medical, nursing, paramedical and administrative programs.

VA/UCLA Partnership

The GLA Department of Medicine is fully integrated with the UCLA Department of Medicine, including full participation in the core internal medicine program, subspecialty fellowships, and medical student programs.  All VA-based DOM faculty have UCLA faculty appointments and are members of a UCLA DOM Division.  Each VA division has a Chief and includes faculty who are predominantly VA-based and faculty with positions that are split between the VAGLAHS and UCLA.

UCLA DOM faculty at GLA are involved in a wide range of research projects, from laboratory-based investigation and clinical research to health services and quality projects.  In addition, UCLA Medical Students in Years I-IV are engaged at GLA in both required and elective rotations.

At GLA, there is a complete UCLA DOM administrative staff serving VA-based UCLA faculty with academic appointments and management of academic dossiers, personnel services, purchasing, fund management, grant submissions, as well as administrative staff serving our trainees.
